Mr. Connolly noted this problem started fifteen to twenty years ago. Mr. Mertz briefed the Board on the status of this project and noted they hoped to have the final design and plans ready for April. Mr. Friel asked what the construction schedule would entail. Mr. Mertz noted they hoped this project would be complete in early 2008. Mr. Trotta noted they hoped to have a bid in hand before Town Meeting. He noted the roads in this area are extremely narrow. He noted there is a lot of rock in this area and this would need to be dealt with. Mr. Burr thanked everyone for all their hard work. Chief Ronayne presented the next part of the presentation. He updated the Board on the progress report for the Lake area and noted the definite need for a more efficient water supply to this area. He noted that retired Captain Lyman was the one who identified this as a hazardous area that needed to be worked on. He noted because of the lack of water supply and hydrants in this area, a pre-fire plan was created to increase effectiveness to this area. Chief Ronayne noted that Capt Lyman, Deputy Doody, and Lieutenant Sanford generated this plan. Chief Ronayne introduced Michael Marquardt, the State Forestry Contact with whom the town has been working with. Mr. Marquardt said that the Town of Canton should be very proud of their accomplishments in this area. The Glen Echo Area is the first on the east coast to be recognized as a Firewise Community. It is one of only 150 communities and the first in Massachusetts. He noted Canton should be proud of this accomplishment.
