Steven & Eleanor Goodman 195 Westchester Dr — 9 -14 -V
Petitioner would like to build a 3 bay detached garage. Setback required is 200ft,
petitioner has 58ft. Arthur Borden, the engineer, appeared with the homeowner, Steve
Goodman. Mr. Borden said the petitioner has owned this house for 17yrs. They want to
build an oversized garage for antique vehicles. It is a separate structure. They require
60ft front setback, they have 58ft. they filed with the Conservation. The blue line on
plan is the no build zone. They are also adjacent to Pequit Brook/riparian zone. He said
that Conservation asked if they could move it closer to the street. Mr. Borden said then
we would need more relief from the ZBA. Steve Goodman said he has antique vehicles as
a hobby. He formerly lived on Trayer Rd. (He shows photos of restored vehicles). There
is a hobby room in the oversized garage, for trophies, memorabilia, etc., store cars,
entertain friends inside this room. Store cars separate. Chairman Carroll asked what
about the gas pump (looking at photos). (NO TANKS, just memorabilia). They do
parades, visit nursing homes. Chairman Carroll said it is a nice street in town. Mr.
Goodman said he spoke to the neighbors, they come over and he gives them rides.
Chairman Carroll said you have an existing 3 car garage attached, now. The new garage
has one large door and a side door. How many cars? (3 ANTIQUES, 2 MODERN
CARS). Chairman Carroll said it sounds life a museum. (YES). Chairman Carroll said it
would look hokey to have 5 garages. Are there any others in town? (NO). Mr. Goodman
said it looks like a carriage house. Chairman Carroll said it is 60ft from the street (YES),'
side faces the street (YES). Mr. Borden said the front corner is at 60ft, side corner is
58ft. seeking 24ft. Chairman Carroll said this needs a Variance, not a pre- existing non-
conforming building,.. Mr. Borden said it meets all dimensional requirements. Chairman
Carroll said you need a Variance, because of Conservation you won't meet our
requirements. Mr. Pando said the location is the only spot without blocking access. I am
not concerned with a couple of feet on the setback. 200ft setback is impossible. No
sense to put garage on the other side. Are these cars registered? (YES). They have a
limited time on the road. By -Laws say not more than 5 vehicles, but since these are
antiques they are less intrusive than 5 vehicles. Pending objections. (no objections from
abutters). Mr. Marini said 2 Variances. Why so close to the other lot? Mr. Borden said
