TRAFFIC STUDY COMMITTEE
MEETING
JANUARY 21, 2004
3:00 P.M.
MINUTES
MEMBERS PRESENT: Ronald Pasquarosa, Peter Bright, Thomas Clark, Frances Clines
CITIZEN: Irene Johnson, 1350 Washington Street
FULLER STREET
1. Police Chief Bright presented to the committee a letter dated January 13, 2004
addressed to Officer Esterbrook (sic) from Joanne Wheeler, 38 Fuller Street, Canton.
Ms. Wheeler requested improved safety markings at the intersection of Neponset Street
and Fuller Street. She claims as marked now, drivers stopped at the red light on Fuller
Street interfere with the flow of traffic on Neponset Street. She offered three suggestions
to remedy the problem.
Mr. Pasquarosa said there is only one pickup loop at the location instead of two. He has
contacted Bell Traffic Signal about the problem.
2. Chief Bright received a call from Selectwoman Avril Elkort regarding the no turn on
red at Fuller Street. He said it is in the works to be changed.
Mr. Pasquarosa said there is a question whether Mass. Highway has turned the Neponset
Street Project back to the Town.
TRAFFIC LIGHT DAMAGE
1. Chief Bright informed the group that an accident damaged the light standard opposite
Jackson Street. The light is cantered.
Mr. Pasquarosa said the top shield is bent.
CROSS STREET
The one way sign is down. Mr. Pasquarosa said that the residents of Canton Commons
were concerned about liability while vehicles were being directed into their property. Chief
Bright said there was an orange barrel but no detour sign. Mr. Pasquarosa suggested a gate across
the spot where there is a thirteen -foot wide space (culvert). Chief Bright said he and the Fire
Chief have concerns about locked gates. Mr. Pasquarosa said there is technology for locked gates
to open automatically by siren but the problem is if the area is not plowed. Chief Bright would
object.
Mr. Pasquarosa said it could be made a private way. Chief Bright said Washington Street
is sometimes severely impacted by traffic. He said there would be concerns about gating off
roads. Mr. Pasquarosa said the one way could be reversed or it could be private way. Chief Bright
said Cross Street is an accepted roadway. Mr. Pasquarosa added that Maple Street is also. Mr.
Clark asked if Cross Street got extended just by use.

VOTE: 4-0 UNANIMOUS
Irene Johnson questioned the Traffic Committee regarding the intersection of
Washington/Pleasant & Washington/Dedham Street.
Mr. Pasquarosa said the request for bids has gone out. The no left turn sign at Pleasant
Street onto Washington Street will remain and will be clearly visible. It will have a red flashing
light on the sign.
Washington Street from Dedham Street to Pecunit Street will be ground down and
repaved.
Mrs. Johnson feels there is no need for a right turn only at Washington and Dedham
Street. There are not many cars that turn that way.
Mr. Pasquarosa said that a road temperature of 40 degrees is needed to road striping. It
will probably be warm enough around April.
Respectfully,
L'
Ronald D. Pasquarosa
