Gary E. Vinciguerra
Also Present: Tamra Stock, Recording Secretary
Chairman Carroll opened the meeting at 7:03 pm and reads the agenda.
Answer is Fitness — 300 Turnpike Street
Chairman Carroll opens the hearing. Mr. Dan Fortier explains they are looking to change
the gym hours to be 24 hours a day 7 days a week but they would like to do it this time
unstaffed. Mr. Fortier explains in the past they have tried to maintain these hours with a
staff but it is very costly and hard to find people to work the over night shifts. Mr. Fortier
goes though a list of things they needed to update in the gym for the insurance company in
order to do this. Other area gyms do this as well and there has to be security measures put
in place. Mr. Fortier states the members of the gym are asking for this so they can get into
the gym whenever they would like to. Chairman Carroll asks what the hours of the gym are
currently. Monday through Friday 4AM-IOPM and the weekends 6AM-6PM. Chairman
Carroll asks if those hours are staffed right now. Yes. Chairman Carroll asks if they are
OK with the security measures. Mr. Fortier states they have thought a lot about it and right
now they only have one person there anyway and they are in front of a wall and if
something happened behind them they wouldn't know. Chairman Carroll states he thinks a
gyms offers more emergency situations than any other business would. Mr. Fortier agrees
but explains non of the clubs they own have had any recently and that is why the members
would have to wear the emergency push buttons around their neck in case of emergency.
Mr. Gregory Pando explains the Board did approve them for a 24 hour operation before
and there were no issues with it and then they came back for a change. Mr. Pando states he
understands what the petitioner is looking to do but he thinks there is a lot of risk in it from
a business standpoint but not from a zoning standpoint. Mr. Pando states if they approve
this he would like the ability to revise the decision if there are any issues. Mr. Pando states
there is a residential area there and doesn't want to see any issues for them. Chairman
Carroll asks when the staff will come in. Mr. Fortier states they were looking at 9AM but
they are flexible to whatever the Board would like to see. Mr. Gary Vinciguerra states he
has no issues. Chairman Carroll states for the businesses safety he would think they would
want live eyes in there every once in a while. Maybe you should look into those drive by
security companies to drive by every once in a while.
Mr. Pando makes a motion on behalf of Answer is Fitness located at 300 Turnpike Street
to grant new hours of operation to be 24 hours a day 7 days a week unstaffed and further
that the Board reserves the right to modify amend or revoke this decision if it proves to be
a nuisance in the future. Mr. Vinciguerra seconds. Vote 3-0 approve
