Dr. Goodman, reported on the summarized results of the 2015 tobacco survey administered to Canton
middle and high school students. The behavior was reported by the students as staying the same, and the
percentage of high school students who have tried tobacco has gone down. Smoking in Canton is lower
than national rates, with the goal to get the numbers to zero. Although the use of e -cigarettes has tripled
nationally; it has not gone up in Canton. Restricting access to tobacco products is showing a negative
effect on starting a tobacco habit.
The next survey will be distributed on December 16, 2016. Mr. Ciccotelli extended his appreciation to
the schools for assisting in the project.
