Planning Board Agenda February 6, 2109 Page 2 of 16 Next Item on the Agenda - (2) go ELM STREET - Discussion of Scenic Way Wall Repair - (Russ Lyman, Owner) Dr. Lyman introduced himself and thanked the Board for taking the time to talk with him. He is requesting permission for the repair of the stonewall at go Elm Street in Canton, which is also a scenic and historic way. He plans on having the wall rebuilt just as it was, but would like to move it back away from the roadway 12 to 14 inches. He would like to begin at the stone steps near the white fence for a length of about 48 feet to where the wall ends by the front lawn and split rail fence. This can be seen in the photos that he sent to the Board. Drivers have hit this stone wall numerous times. In one case, a vehicle bounced off the wall and hit a vehicle coming in the other direction. A mother and her two children were in the vehicle. The three incidents were documented, but there have been numerous accidents that have gone unreported. The stones will be taken down, reinforced on the inside and put back together so that the wall will appear just as it always did, only a little bit farther away from the road. He further stated that he hoped that this will prevent accidents in the future, without changing the historic nature of the wall and roadway. This should improve safety at this treacherous corner while preserving the beauty of the historic way. A motion was made by Chairman Scully and seconded by Mr. Panico to approve the repair of the stone way on a historic and scenic way at go Elm Street, and to move the stone wall 12-14 inches back, away from the roadway, due to safety issues. Motion Approved 3-0. The Board was waiting for Mr. LaMarr to move forward with Item 20 on the Agenda. They will take Item 20 up when he arrives.
