2. Discuss possible locations for open space & rec signage (entry, kiosks), current status, and
prioritization methods for 5-year installation plan
a. Laura has a draft outline of a five year plan, with the first two years filled in based on the
Open Space & Recreation Plan, Earl Newhouse Waterfront Plan, Paul Revere Heritage Site
activities, and Aquatic Center restoration plans
b. Years 3-5 were filled in prioritizing active recreation areas first (playgrounds and fields) over
conservation and trail areas, since it was assumed trails were going to need more time
c. Staff input from Conservation, Recreation, and Schools is needed to help prioritize sign
needs, based on the quality and quantity of existing signage currently and other
improvement projects which may already be planned (Laura will solicit this feedback)
d. Mike wondered if the Town actually owns Messinger Field or if it is owned by a
neighborhood association
3. Update on Paul Revere Heritage Site interpretive signage (fonts, colors, etc.) (Emily)
a. Emily showed images of the draft interpretive signage panels, which people present felt the
colors were spot on

b. Entryway signage is recommended to have a “Hunter Green” background (CMYK code is C
44% M 0%, Y 37% and K 63%), with white posts on either side, and gold leaf lettering, and
either the Town seal and/or referencing the “Town of Canton”
c. Colors going to be used on the updated Town website in CMYK, also similar to town seal
colors:
Dark Blue C 37% M 18% Y 0% K 54%
 Medium Blue C 71% M 21% Y 0% K 17%

Green: C 52% M 0% Y 19% K 38%
 Creamy White C 0% M 0% Y 0% K 5%
 Red C 0% M 60% Y 53% K 15%
d. The Town tends to use serif fonts (Times New Roman Bold, OPTICraw Modern Bold) for
place names and titles. Monterrat Medium is a sans-serif font probably better used for
content text and descriptions, since it is very easy to read
e. The website update will be using Open Sans and Monterrat interchangeably throughout the
site (Can be found on Google Fonts)

c. NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has a nice example:
