1. Discuss samples of signs provided since last time (Emily, Regen)
a. Group liked the examples of trail markets; Wondered about what the font and colors were
so these could be duplicated no matter what future vendor was used.
b. Group liked the examples from Lexington, MA and Sandwich, MA public schools
i. For entry way signs to Open Space & Rec Properties:
1. Green background
2. Gold lettering, mix of script and capitals
3. Seal at the top
4. White posts at the sides
ii. Will discuss researched fonts and colors from trail markers and existing signage at
next meeting
iii. Likes the idea of simple kiosks at all recreation areas (trails or parks) for maps, rules,
and upcoming events that could be easily updated.
iv. Will research and discuss different kiosk styles at next meeting
v. Will use Paul Revere Heritage Site signage (when designed) as a model for future
interpretive signage (e.g. Pequitside Farm, or other) with fonts/colors used
vi. Generally felt like Open Space & Recreation facility signage recommendations and
guidelines could be done in house with the working group
vii. Could also borrow ideas from the color palettes and fonts being used for the
website update
viii. Louis has vendors who for minimal money ($15-$60) could tweak the town seal to
have high-resolution color and black and white versions for use on signage and
other places
ix. Could look to existing sign bylaws for useful language (limited color palettes, etc.)
2. Discuss graphic design vendor contacts
a. Vendors town has provided previously (Larry); provided, will try to get fonts, details for next
meeting
b. Vendors from other towns (Emily), provided, will try to get fonts, details for next meeting
c. Local graphic design and marketing firms (Laura) – provided list and examples
i. General feeling that well Open Space & Rec signage guidelines could be done in
house, it was better to get a consultant for downtown
signage/wayfinding/marketing proposals
ii. Laura discussed how this could be funded with mitigation funds or Department of
Housing and Community Development Downtown Initiative technical assistance
grant
3. Update on Paul Revere Heritage Site interpretive signs (Emily): content will be submitted to sign
vendor to design; no designs yet to show

4. Next steps for Pequitside Farm interpretive signs (Regen): holding pattern to see Paul Revere
Heritage Signs to make a consistent design for Pequitside Farm

c. Public Library
d. Canton center train station
e. Paul Revere Heritage Site
f. Trails behind Waterfall apartments/Forge Pond
g. To I-95
h. To Town Pool

6. Voluntary sign program for off-street parking in the Town center (Laura) – Will be asking John
Connolly for some guidance on both voluntary share parking agreements between private
companies; as well as public/private shared parking possibilities

a. Determining costs and scope of work for hiring a graphic design firm to do graphic standards
for wayfinding and signage for different purposes
i. General companies and costs known
ii. Will drill down into scope of work for downtown area (Laura)
b. Allocating funding to design graphic standards for wayfinding and signage (Laura): this is a
Board of Selectmen question whether to fund out of mitigation or wait to see if we can get a
grant
c. Suggested we could ask the Canton Association of Business and Industry or Neponset River
Regional Chamber for donations?
d. Hiring a firm to design graphic standards for wayfinding and signage and complete that work
(Laura provided examples/list)
