Discussion
1. Welcome/Late Arrivals
7:00-7:05
Meeting began at 7:OOpm. Emilio welcomed everyone, and introduced
himself as Chair.
2. Discussion of short-term
7:05-7:35
• Emilio introduced John McSweeney
shared priorities
• John said the CCPC has 13 requests for funding this year, totaling
$2.3 million dollars, and only about $1 million to distribute, so
there will be a lot of disappointed people this year.
• Emilio wanted to know if there were opportunities for funding in
future years for projects that are not approved during this CPA
funding cycle, would applicants be encouraged to re -apply.
• John said yes, applicants are encouraged to bring money to the
table and to prioritize if they have multiple projects.
• John said projects that didn't seem complete or "shovel ready'
were recommended to come back in a future year
• There is a wide spread of project this year, across all eligible
categories
• Emilio said that this high demand for CPA funding in Canton
shows the popularity of the program and demonstrates that
CCPC funds are well known as a funding source and that the
process is working.
• Laura asked to know what the projects were this year
• John said there was requests for (see attached):
o Restoration of a fire engine
o Hagan Court egress additional funding
o Housing coordinator position

Source page 2

o Contribution to conservation fund
o Glen Echo pond land acquisition
o Reading garden design study
o Skating rink design
o Skating rink restoration
o Revere Heritage Site — restrooms
o School basketball courts —Middle School
o Gibson Field lighting
o Hansen Elementary playground
o Bally Street to Bolivar Pond trail design study
• Laura noted that there were a lot of Parks & Rec projects
• Lisa said It will be important to match the CCPC projects this year
with explicit language in the Master Plan so that the MPIC could
communicate that to the CCPC, as well as prioritize letters of
recommendation
• Emilio read the CCPC and Master Plan Shared Priorities
document (see attached)
• Emilio asked if there were enough funds to routinely provide
funding to the Housing Trust
• Laura said that the overall goal was to have more sources of
funding to the trust besides CPA — however, it was still an
important source of funds to the Trust —especially in the
beginning of its formation.
• Laura said there is a struggle for the MPIC in terms of sending
letters of support for projects — is that the Master Plan is so
broad that quite a few projects overlap with both CCPC and
Master Plan priorities.
• Emilio stated that letters of support should be meaningful and
not routine.
• Lisa requested that Laura map the proposed CCPC projects for
this year to the current Master Plan and CPA plans (or other
recent plans) with explicit language. Then poll the group for
priorities, so it is meaningful.
• Alan asked about the historic preservation ask for the Fire Trust
restoration.
