2020 —VISUAL ART INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY This request ties into the District's Strategic Framework under the area of Transforming Teaching &Learning (3.1 Designing Student Learning &Growth). Galvin Middle School 1)Purchasing a classroom set of ipad mini tablets will allow for expansion of photography and video capabilities in the iDesign class at the middle school. Currently, curriculum in these areas is limited because there are no classroom devices that can take pictures or videos. Furthermore, ipad minis can be used for photo and video editing using apps. With the capital request that was received for fiscal 2019, 10 ipad mini tablets with cases, a storage cart, a color laser printer, and a tripod were purchased. With the purchase of those 10 ipad mini tablets, iDesign students will have a limited supply of devices to use for these purposes. This request, for fiscal year 2020, will allow for the purchase of 20 more ipad mini tablets with cases to complete the classroom set, allowing equitable access to these photo and video technology resources for an entire class to use at once. Included in this request is also a request for 2 tripods to enhance the photography and video capabilities of the ipads. 2)These ipads will also provide technology that can be utilized to expand art curriculum programming for our 8th grade students to include a photography elective course at GMS. 3)Finally, when not in use for iDesign or other art curriculum, these ipads could be borrowed by other GMS teachers for use in their content areas. Elementary Art Classrooms The inkjet color printers have been removed from the Art classrooms in all three elementary schools without replacement. The only access to color printing that Art teachers now have is to send documents to their building's color copier. This situation has proved to be problematic for teachers when they are working with students that need color reference images to work from. Not having access to a color printer in their classrooms limits their ability to provide i nstructional materials when they are most relevant to students, during class time. The Art teachers plan as much as possible to have visual references for their students prepared in advance, but the process of creating art often requires additional reference materials, based on student choice and interest, once the students are working. Replacing the color printers that have been removed will support the Art teachers' efforts individualize resources to their students' needs and interests.

Valley Communications Systems, Inc.
Canton -High School Auditorium Audio Upgrade Phase 2 - JPT - P - V-
27368
Valley Communications Systems, Inc.("VCS") or licensed subcontractor will provide Canton Public
Schools ("The Client") the system described in this document. Owner Furnished Equipment
("OFE") is any equipment pre-existing or provided by The Customer that is a part of this system.
Customer responsibilities listed in detail at the end of this document.
Budgetary Numbers Only
Proposed Solution:
The Canton High School Auditorium is equipped with a poorly documented and aging audio system
that does not function without crackles and buzzing or support the presentations and performances
that are held in the auditorium. The current system requires training from staff that is not always
readily available and does not offer an "easy mode" for non-technical users who need a few
microphones.
Valley Communications Systems, Inc. has many years of experience designing, installing,
programming, training users, and supporting auditorium performance spaces such as the Canton
High School Auditorium. The following components and professional services are a budgetary
guideline to upgrade the auditorium audio system to sound great and be easy to use for technical
and non-technical users.
This proposal provides equipment and professional services to replace the auditorium speakers,
speaker cabling, and control system. It is a complement to proposal V-24322, which replaced the
mixing board, amplifier, and general sound system backbone.
The system described in this document requires the system
proposed in V-24322 in order to function.
The new system outlined in this proposal consists of the following components and features:
7. Anew modular line-array speaker system, which VCS Technicians will mount above the
stage
2. New cabling connecting the speakers to the OFE amplifier in the backstage equipment rackSource page 130
3. Anew control processor to manage auditorium operations programmed with both a SIMPLE
mode for use when only microphones and media inputs are needed and a MIXER mode for
use when the mixing board and full system capabilities are needed.
4. Anew control touch panel mounted in the backstage equipment rack
5. Anew control touch panel mounted on the front of house console
New SF~ea(«rs and Cabling:
VCS will provide and install a new modular speaker cluster mounted above the center of the stage.
The speakers will be fed by the OFE amplifier located in the OFE backstage equipment rack.
VCS will provide and install new speaker cabling to connect the new speakers to the OFE amplifier.
Control System;
VCS will provide a single NIC control processor that will manage device operations. VCS will
provide and install two new 7" diagonal capacitive touch panels.
A VCS representative will attend (virtually) a Control System design session (up to one hour per
room/system type), before creating a design for all common functions and unique functions in each
room or system. The Client must approve the design of the control interface prior to any
programming.
VCS will configure the Graphical User Interface "GUI" using VCS touch panel design and layout
best practices. A custom color scheme or logo may be used if specified and provided by the Client.
Permission and licensing to use logos or images is the responsibility of the Client.
*Note* VCS believes that The Client has the right to own the intellectual property produced when a
system is designed. As such, at the conclusion of the project, VCS will provide a functional system
as outlined above to The Client, as well as all documentation pertaining to the system, including
manuals for installed equipment, and un-compiled control, switching, and audio digital signal
processing system program codes. VCS can provide user training for the system at an additional
cost to The Client if requested.
Assumptions:
1. The physical dimensions, material construction, acoustic qualities, lighting, and/or the
occupancy/capacity of the space will support satisfactory performance of the specified
equipment. The physical characteristics of a space dramatically affect system effectiveness,
and the equipment in this proposal has been specified despite insufficient or unavailable
information regarding those physical characteristics.
2. There are existing cable pathways including conduit, floor boxes, fishable walls, drop the
ceiling airspaces, cable ladders, or other pathways as described, implied, or otherwise
required to connect devices as described in this proposal. If such cable pathways are not
present, any cable pathways not explicitly stated in this document to be provided by VCS
will be provided by others.
3. There are at least three rack-units of space in the existing OFE equipment racks in which
the specified new equipment can be mounted.
4. Due to many possible issues, including but not limited to equipment being beyond expected
end-of-life, or having previously been damaged by normal wear and tear, hazardous
environmental conditions, use in excess of manufacturer's recommendation, alteration, user
negligence, misuse, short- or long-term removal and/or storage, transportation from the
original installation site, or any activity that would otherwise void the manufacturer's

warranty, OFE, old, or pre-existing equipment may not continue to function satisfactorily
after being moved, modified, or adjusted, or after existing inter-device connections have
been added or removed. Any OFE, old, or pre-existing equipment that VCS has specified to
integrate as a part of this proposal will not be guaranteed to retain any functionality after
integration into the proposed system regardless of any initial functionality verification. VCS
can facilitate the replacement or repair of OFE, old, or pre-existing equipment upon
discovery of malfunction in that equipment for an additional cost. Replacement of
malfunctioning OFE, old, or pre-existing equipment that is designated for reuse in the
system specified in this document may add substantial time to the duration of the project
and may delay project completion, in addition to an increasing total project cost to The
Client, if that equipment is required for a complete and functional system. If that equipment
is not required for a complete and functional system, VCS will inform The Client that the
equipment can be removed from the system as originally designed, although removal of that
equipment may reduce the available features or limit system function.
5. In addition to any OFE equipment removed or uninstalled as part of the services specified in
this document, VCS may remove or uninstall additional OFE equipment if that equipment
m ust be removed or uninstalled to allow for the installation of equipment as described in this
document. Functionality originally provided by removed or uninstalled equipment will not be
retained unless that functionality is specifically stated as included in the system specified in
this document. VCS will return any removed or uninstalled OFE equipment to The Client.
VCS can take any unused equipment and dispose of it for an additional cost if requested.
~. This system will be staffed by designated operation personnel who will supervise,
manipulate, configure, and/or otherwise operate the required system components as
needed throughout the use of the system as described in this document.
~. This system will not be modified or disassembled, nor will any devices configurations be
altered, in any way other than as specifically described in this document by anyone other
than VCS without releasing VCS of any system functionality, reliability, or warranty
responsibilities. VCS can restore the system to the originally specified state for an additional
cost if requested after such unapproved modifications.
If any of these assumptions are untrue, or if any unforeseen or unaccounted for site conditions or
circumstances arise that have a material impact on system function or installation, additional
hardware and/or professional services and labor charges will be provided at an additional cost to
The Client through a change order. VCS recommends that The Client set aside a reserve of up to
10% of total project cost for potential complications in implementation of the proposed system. If by
the time a purchase order is received, any of the specified equipment is discontinued or no longer
available, VCS will inform The Client of the discontinued items and will make every attempt to
provide alternate equipment with the same functionality at the same cost as those discontinued
items. However, in the case that no similar cost equipment is available with comparable
functionality, VCS will inform The Client of potential options for replacement equipment at a
different cost and/or altered functionality.
Hardware required to attach, mount, connect, or otherwise install the equipment specified in this
proposal is included as required for the given surfaces and/or structures to which the specified
hardware must mount, provided the characteristics of these surfaces and/or structures have been
given to VCS by The Client OR if those surfaces and/or structures have been independently
evaluated by VCS. In the event that the characteristics of these structures or surfaces was
unavailable for evaluation, or was misconstrued, miscommunicated, not communicated, or
otherwise unknown or unknowable, VCS has made a good faith effort to estimate likely hardware

requirements. VCS may require a change order for additional hardware and/or labor to attach,
mount, connect, or otherwise install the equipment specified in this proposal if such hardware
and/or labor is determined to be necessary in the professional judgement of VCS for a successful,
reliable, or safe installation, or if such additional hardware is necessary to meet the requirements
as determined by local building codes or inspection authorities. Any such change order will be
billable and may result in an increased cost unless otherwise prohibited by law.
Client Responsibilities:
Each item listed in this section is the responsibility of The Client. Any item in this section that is not
addressed by The Client may delay project completion and will result in an increased cost for
remobilization of VCS installation, configuration, programming, project management, or other
personnel. Some items in this section, if not addressed by The Client, may result in damage to
system equipment or may place VCS or other personnel at risk of harm or bodily injury. The Client
is responsible for all damages associated with not executing on the responsibilities listed in this
section.
general
8. Designate a key representative to act as the project manager. This Client representative will
coordinate the activities of internal Client departments and services required for successful

PROJECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE:
District Wide (Classroom-Based Instruments)
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5,000):
$32,431
DESCRIPTION:
Connolly bus company enforces rules of no instruments on the buses that do not fit in a
child's lap. As a result, there has been a hardship on many two-income families counting on
bus transportation for their children. This proposal will allow the school to own instruments
to be used in school, while the students keep their rented instruments at home. It is
absolutely essential that Canton begin to prepare for this as the buses become even more
crowded, lest we decimate the ensembles of low pitched instruments and end up with flute
and clarinet choirs and violin only groups.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional uaaes if necessary)
This supports long term strategic objective 1, achieving educational excellence and ensuring
equity, by eliminating obstacles and barriers to student learning growth. Many families could
not afford to rent 2 instruments one for home, one for school which would have to happen if
students cannot take instruments on the bus and want to play in school ensembles.

CAPITAL PROJECT /EQUIPMENT REQUEST
DEPARTMENT: SUBMITTED BY:
Performing Arts Catherine Eckersley
PROJECT /EQUIPMENT TITLE:
(CHS) Performing Arts Technology
TOTAL PROJECT / EQUIPMENT COST (must be at least $5.000):
$9,247
DESCRIPTION:
The proposal encompasses all the Performing Arts Technology needs for Canton High School.
PURPOSE, JUSTIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
(Attach additional pages if necessary)
The Performing Arts department offers two Music Technology courses at the high school level. In
these classes students work in an iMac lab to compose music using music software: Garage Band,
Logic and Sibelius. Students analyze song forms and develop songwriting skills through
sequencing and editing sound loops. They also transcribe pop and hip hop beats into music
software and create sound effect tracks for video clips. In the advanced class students use live
recording and beat pads. Middle school and elementary school use of ipads and imac laptops
throughout the curriculum prepare all students to be successful in these high school courses. CHS
has high enrollment for these courses but unfortunately cannot include every student who would
like to take the courses. This is mainly due to small class sizes because of equipment needs. This
past year CHS started with 15 stations for students so semester one courses could only
accommodate 15 students per section. MusicCounts! parent Booster group generously donated 3
stations this year so semester two courses could accomodate 18 students. This proposal requests
equipment for 7 more stations so that Music Tech courses can have enrollment of 25 students in
each section. Sign-ups for the courses will surely support this increase. Each station includes a
midi keyboard and imac computer. This supports long-term strategic objective 3, transforming
teaching and learning, by designing engaging and relevant instruction and integrating technology
to create transformational learning opportunities for every student. It also supports strategic
framework objective 1, achieving educational excellence and ensuring equity: 1.1 Identify and
eliminate obstacles and barriers to student learning and growth. With more equipment more
students will be able to take this course.

urrently, preschool classes are receiving immersive language and cultural instruction that is
irectly connected to the existing curriculum. Elementary school students experienced
anguage and Culture as a year-long after school club during the 2017-18 school year. Given
nput from families and teachers at the preschool level, there is great interest in ensuring that
II students continue to have access to this programming. This project would further expand
rogramming into the kindergarten classes at all three elementary schools and provide
nstructional resources for program improvements. The proposal would provide
evelopmentally appropriate standards-based world language instructional materials that
ntegrate culture, art, literacy, music, numeracy, and movement. The program aligns with the
CTFL roficienc uidelines

World Language and Culture instruction at a young age promotes an interest and curiosity in
understanding, knowing, and experiencing the world through different lenses, such as
through language, cultural identity, ethnicity, tradition, etc. Providing students at a young
age the opportunity to access to experience different ways of seeing themselves and others
promotes a safe, welcoming and inclusive school and district culture, which impacts students'
lives. The World Language and Culture curricula provides the foundational support for social
emotional learning competencies in conjunction with other related disciplines, such as art,
m usic, and wellness, which are already offered as stand-alone programs at the elementary
school level.Source page 150
